Trauma Therapy
Trauma Therapy
“There is a crack in everything thats how the light gets in.”
-Leonard Cohen
Trauma is a response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms a person’s ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, and diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel the full range of emotions and life experiences. While there are no objective criteria to determine which events will cause post trauma symptoms, circumstances typically involve loss of control, betrayal, abuse of power, helplessness, pain, confusion, and or loss.
Five primary principles guide my approach in providing trauma- informed care:
- Safety. This includes creating space where people feel culturally, emotionally, and physically safe.
- Transparency and trustworthiness.
- Choice.
- Collaboration and mutuality.
- Empowerment.
If you are suffering from harmful effects of trauma, there is hope. Together, we will use a wide range of evidence based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting, to diminish and reorganize painful memories.
